THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: William Panipicha is attempting to achieve a world record for the longest caricature marathon. The artist began the feat on November 1 and has already sketched scores of people who volunteered to be his models in a room at St.Joseph Higher Secondary School at Palayam.
“I can complete a work in two minutes and I plan to make maximum caricatures.” he said.
He has so far drawn caricatures of school children, teachers and the public. After drawing them, the artist gifts the caricatures to his models. William, a self-taught artist, aims at setting a Guinness record of 72 hrs of continuous drawing with only 5 minutes recess in each hour.

William completed 170 caricatures in the first 12 hours and he attempts to complete 2,000 drawings by November 4. By then, the art teacher of St. Thomas HSS, Poonthura is hoping to enter the Guinness World Records for breaking a 61 hrs 55 minutes caricature marathon set by Australian artist, Ronald Francis Heberling.

Father Dyson, manager of St. Joseph HSS, Palayam officially inaugurated the event which is organised by the Trivandrum Diocese Teachers Organisation, Gild. As part of the attempt, William, who also works as a police sketch artist, is under complete observation by the surveillance cameras set by the Universal Record Forum(URF) officials and is under strict guidance of health experts.
