THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 54-year-old convict who jumped parole from the Central Prison in Kerala's capital city returned to jail after 25 years, much to the surprise of the jail authorities.
Nazar, a native of Mattancherry in Kochi was given a life sentence after he was convicted in a murder case in 1991. After serving two years of his prison term, Nazar was given parole.
Instead of returning to prison after a month, Nazar fled to Mumbai. From there, he went to Saudi Arabia to start a new life. But the implementation of the naturalisation law 'nitaqat' in Saudi Arabia forced him to return to India after 11 years.
Meanwhile, Nazar was diagnosed with cancer. Facing a huge treatment expense and lookout by police, Nazar decided to surrender before the jail authorities.
The jail authorities said he would be given treatment as he had many years of prison term left.
