THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A live painting exhibition of around 100 students from Classes 4-10 from various schools in the district was held in the city on Monday.
The event was organised by the Varnacharth Arts and Crafts, a Manacaud-based arts association to create awareness about the harmful effects of intoxicants in society, actively participate in the government’s anti-drug activities, and convey the message to children and youth.
“Through these events, children become more aware of the issues, and damages caused by drugs and alcohol. Encouraging children to engage in activities of their interest will also help them stay focused and not distracted by bad habits,” said Vyshnavi V, a native of Attukal and mother of Anupama and Aiswarya, who participated in the event.
The paintings were made using fabric paints, oil pastels, crayons and acrylic paints.
“This is the seventh edition of Varnacharth. We have organised such events earlier based on various issues with the collaboration of non-government organisations. The aim is to create awareness and develop the skill in children,” said Nagarajan of Varnacharth Art and Crafts.
Vamanapuram MLA Sudheer Shah Palode and other personalities visited the exhibition.
