VIJAYAWADA: After the first phase of AP MBBS counselling, a total of 1,070 seats in B and C category ( MBBS and BDS) remained vacant. In the C Category (NRI quota), only 121 seats of the total 343 seats were filled.  The second phase of counselling will start from August 9. Usually, all the B category (payment seats) and C category seats will be filled in the first phase of counselling itself. However, a large number of seats remained vacant this year at the end of the first phase of counselling.

The reason: The Telangana MBBS counselling is still going on and the aspirants from the AP region are trying their luck in securing a seat in Telangana colleges too. After the completion of Telangana counselling for A category seats, most of the aspirants are showing interest in Telangana colleges for B and C category seats.

Koneru Spandana, MBBS aspirant from Vijayawada, said that she missed A category seat in AP medical colleges and now she is trying to get a seat in Telangana colleges. “I would like to go for medical colleges in Telangana like Osmania, Gandhi etc for doing my MBBS. I am ready to go with B or C category if I get an admission in those colleges. The AP colleges are only my second preference.”

Fathima Medical College admissions hit
For MBBS course, all the A and B category seats in 14 out of the 15 colleges were filled.  In Fathima Medical College, Kadapa, not even a single B and C category seats were filled.  As the college lost the reputation with the recent incident of cancellation of 100 seats at a go for the 2015 batch, all the B and C category seats remained vacant. For BDS course, majority of the colleges are left with vacant seats in B and C categories.
