City to continue sweltering in daytime

At a time when monsoon rains are supposed to bring much needed  relief, Vijayawada city is experiencing very hot climate.

VIJAYAWADA: At a time when monsoon rains are supposed to bring much-needed relief, Vijayawada city is experiencing very hot climate. The day temperature is consistently high for the past few days with almost dry weather and no rains.   With the intensity of monsoon decreasing, the city is witnessing temperatures as high as 35 degree Celsius. On Tuesday, the day temperature in Vijayawada notched up to 36 degrees Celsius.
Indian Meteorological department officials said that the monsoon winds have weakened and the current weak phase of the monsoon could last for one or two days followed by moderate rain.

Speaking to Express, IMD Hyderabad Director, YK Reddy said, “There is low circulation of monsoon winds in the State just like in other southern states. Currently, since there is no low pressure, the State is experiencing a weak monsoon. The situation might change in the next two days, in case the winds on the ocean side get strengthened.”

Due to the prevailing weak monsoon, the entire State is experiencing high temperatures and heat conditions. The day time temperature in Vijayawada increased to 36 degrees, a rise of 4-5 degrees in the past one week. Similarly, other places in the State have also witnessed a rise in temperature by 4-5 degrees.  The State is receiving a deficit rainfall by -5cm than the normal range.
