KADAPA/ VIJAYAWADA: Students of Fathima Institute of Medical Sciences (FIMS) met YSRC president and Leader of the Opposition Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy during his padyatra at Yerraguntla, Kadapa, on Thursday. Students informed the YSRC supremo that CM Chandrababu Naidu had promised to file an affidavit supporting their cause before Nandyal elections, only to attract Muslim votes, but forgot his promises after TDP’s win. Student representatives also alleged that Naidu’s government filed a flawed affidavit in the court.
Responding to their plea, the opposition leader said that Naidu himself promised to provide relief to Fathima students during elections. But after the polls, his assurances have gone in vain. “Fathima students have been protesting in Vijayawada for the past ten days. Not a single official from the government or the health department has come to their rescue,” alleged Jagan.
“In order to favour the college management and honour deals fixed with private universities, Naidu’s government refused to forgo 100 seats in the next academic year as advised by the Supreme court. The Supreme Court’s judgement has obviously not been positive,” he said. “A few states have passed ordinances and government orders to secure the future of students belonging to de-recognised colleges. If Naidu has any humanity left in him, he should immediately act upon this issue,” demanded the opposition leader.
Former MP Undavalli Arun Kumar also met Fathima students at Dharna Chowk here on Thursday to throw his weight behind their protest. He assured to go through their problems and strive to mete out justice to them. Meanwhile, students took objection to health minister Kamineni Srinivas’ move of changing the composition of the committee which was scheduled to meet officials of Medical Council of India (MCI) and Union Minister for Health JP Nadda on November 10 headed by principal secretary (Health) Poonam Malakondaiah. They expressed their apprehension over the removal of parents and students representatives from the committee at the eleventh hour.
