National BC Welfare Association president and MLA R Krishnaiah underscored the need for unity among Backward Classes to prevent the inclusion of Kapu community.

VIJAYAWADA: National BC Welfare Association president and MLA R Krishnaiah underscored the need for unity among Backward Classes to prevent the inclusion of Kapu community. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Krishnaiah said that it will not be rationale to include the Kapu community in the BC list. He pointed out that the Constitution provides reservations only to socially oppressed classes and maintained that Kapus are not backward.

“Kapu leaders are preparing to intensify their agitation to mount pressure on the government to include them in the list of BCs,” said Krishnaiah. He threatened to stage a massive agitation in Vijayawada next month if the State Government extends BC reservation to Kapus.

“All the political parties will support Kapu reservation with an eye on vote bank.  Telangana Chief Minister K Chandra Sekhar Rao had promised he would give an opportunity to the Dalit to become CM if Telengana Rashtra Samiti comes to power. After coming to power, he himself became the CM. Political parties treating BCs just as a vote bank,’’ said Pondicherry Minister Malladi Krishna Rao.
BC leaders Arava Satyam, Angirekula Vara Prasad Yadav, Durga Prasad were among those present at the news conference.

Meanwhile, All India Kapu Federation National president and Kapu Corporation chairman Chalamalasetti Ramanjaneya said that BCs were not against reservation for Kapu. Only a few  Kapu leaders, backed by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, were creating nuisance in the State, he said.
He further said that he hopes that Manjunath Commission appointed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu considers the version of Kapus and serves justice to the community without hampering the interests of Backward Communities.
