Cops seize liquor worth Rs 10k from dhaba

Excise and Prohibition sleuths conducted surprise raids at a dhaba in Nuzvid town and seized liquor worth `10,000 which was being sold to belt shops on late Friday night.

VIJAYAWADA:  Excise and Prohibition sleuths conducted surprise raids at a dhaba in Nuzvid town and seized liquor worth `10,000 which was being sold to belt shops on late Friday night. According to Excise and Prohibition - Nuzvid division circle inspector J Srinivas, they received information that the accused dhaba owner was selling liquor at exhorbitant rates citing it was being imported from military canteens. A team of four raided the dhaba on Friday around 11 pm and nabbed Venkateswara Rao red-handed while he was selling liquor to customers at higher prices.

It is believed that the accused Gopisetti Venkateswara Rao procured the liquor bottles from a local military canteen and sold it at higher prices in the dhaba. When questioned, the accused confessed his crime and said he purchased liquor from a local Canteen Stores Department (CSD) which primarily sells liquor to military personnel.

“We seized 16 bottles of liquor from the dhaba, worth around `10,000 in the open market. After  purchasing them at lower prices from CSD, the accused earned profits by selling them in the black market,” said CI Srinivas. He further said they served notices to Canteen Stores Department (Military) not to sell liquor to unauthorized persons.
