VIJAYAWADA: DSS National Convener Jhansi Geddam has said that there is every need to create awareness and opportunities, inculcate self respect and promote inclusive education to lead the way towards gender equality.As part of a widespread campaign of 16 days activism against gender-based violence the world over, from November 25 to December 10, Dalit Sthree Sakthi organised an awareness meet on gender equality at the press club here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Jhansi Geddam said that the government should focus on providing security to women as domestic violence and dowry harassment are on the rise in the State. She said that the DSS was spreading legal awareness among women in rural areas, thereby transforming their lives. 

DSS national programme manager GDV Prakash appealed to all the women to make efforts to achieve self reliance to survive in the society. He also urged the Dalit women to get their daughters educated. 
Prof Swaroopa Rani, Department of Mahayana Buddhist Studies, ANU narrated how Dr. BR Ambedkar was concerned with the liberation of women in all aspects, which can be found in his writings, speeches and actions.
