VIJAYAWADA: Extending its solidarity to Kapu patriarch Mudragada Padmanabham’s
‘Chalo Amaravati Padayatra’ from Kirlampudi on July 26, the YSR Congress Party has condemned the deployment of a huge police force in East Godavari district to thwart it.Speaking to mediapersons in Hyderabad,  YSR Congress Party East Godavari district president K Kanna Babu alleged that the Telugu Desam government was creating a fear psychosis among people by deploying nearly 7,000 police personnel across the district and taking leaders of Kapu community into preventive custody.

Kapus felt deceived as Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu failed to fulfil his election promise of providing BC reservation to the community even three years after coming to power in the State.
Hence, former minister Mudragada planned ‘Chalo Amaravati Padayatra’ to pressurise the State government to accord Backward Class status to Kapus, he said.

The YSRC leader wondered why the State government was treating Kapu reservation as a law and order issue. Setting up of Manjunath Commission for provision of BC status to Kapus was a mere eyewash as it is yet to submit its report to the State government, he said.
