VIJAYAWADA: Mayor Koneru Sreedhar once again turned his ire on assistant medical officers health (AMOH) of public health department for poor sanitary conditions in the city during council meeting on Wednesday. On Monday during discussion on the agenda for the council meeting, the Mayor took to task Chief Medical Officer Health (CMOH) K Arjuna Rao for his alleged corrupt practices in cahoots with his subordinate officials.
Sreedhar expressed his dissatisfaction with the officials for their dereliction of duties and alleged that they had utterly failed in maintaining sanitation standards across the city over the months. Highlighting the issue, YSRCP corporator Bulla Vijaya Kumar said that AMOH Babu Srinivasan had not visited his division even once in the last four years. The drains in Kedareswarpet area were filled with heaps of garbage and turned into breeding ground for mosquitoes, he rued.
Several other corporators of both ruling and Opposition parties also complained to Sreedhar that they were not even aware of the AMOH monitoring sanitation in their respective divisions. This further incensed the Mayor who sought to know what the AMOHs were doing as their very presence was not even noticed by the corporators in the last four years.
TDP corporator Y Ramaiah said that the AMOH concerned had never attended to his phone call made to complain about the poor sanitary condition in his division.“What happened to the officials? Why don’t they call back and respond to the corporators’ concerns when the VMC is footing the mobile phone bills of the officials?” Sreedhar questioned the AMOHs.
He said that a meeting will be convened shortly with corporators and public health department officials to improve coordination and sort out the sanitation problems in the city, the Mayor added.
