Vijayawada: Violence erupts in college after student alleges bullying by seniors

VIJAYAWADA: Minor tension prevailed in Kanuru village after two groups of engineering students from VR Siddhartha Engineering College pelted stones at each other on Tuesday.

The incident took place in front of the college main gate when the students from two different batches had a heated debate following which they reportedly attacked each other with stones and bricks.

According to sources from the institution, the students from the senior batch allegedly bullied and passed comments on a girl from the junior batch who, then, narrated the incident to her classmates. The scuffle began after the students of the junior batch approached their seniors and expressed their displeasure with the incident. This resulted in a heated argument between the two groups. "The senior batch started the issue after they passed comments on a junior girl student. When her classmates confronted them for their behaviour, the seniors started abusing and attacked them," a student said.

Upon receiving the information from locals about the incident, Penamaluru police reached the spot, intervened and dispersed the mob. Cases were registered against the incident for disruption of law and order and identifying the involved students with the help of the CCTV footage. In the incident, a motorist was injured.
