Andhra Pradesh: Final draft designs submitted, new secretariat to be in five towers

VIJAYAWADA: The master architect of the capital, Foster + Partners, made a presentation on the final draft designs of the permanent secretariat proposed in the core capital of Amaravati to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu late on Thursday evening, during the weekly CRDA review meeting. According to the presentation, the secretariat will be in five towers, with each containing over 40 floors.

According to a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s office, the five towers will be coming up on the either side of Palavaagu (rivulet) and will be interconnected with a 600-metre-long internal road. While one tower will house the CMO and the General Administration Department in 46 floors, the Chief Secretary’s office will be in another tower of 40 floors. “These two towers will be on one side of the Palavaagu (rivulet), and the remaining three towers, proposed to come up on the other side of the rivulet, will have other departments,” officials said.

Speaking on the occasion, Naidu suggested that the secretariat should also have areas that public could access, including food plazas, sports arenas and others. He said that the iconic structures should also be places of tourist attraction.

The CM also said that the final draft designs will be presented to MLAs and MLCs in the Assembly on Friday to get their feedback.
