Act on pollution, Taxpayers’ Assn tells VMC

They suggested that the officials concerned take action against the retail stores which are selling high-decibel horns and silencers.

VIJAYAWADA: Noting that the pollution levels in the city were going up, the Taxpayers’ Association submitted a memorandum to Municipal Commissioner J Nivas stating that the ongoing developmental works, including the storm water drain, road extension and repair works, are adding to people’s woes by increasing the generation of dust.

In a press meet on Thursday, president and general secretary of the association V Sambi Reddy and MV Anjaneyulu, pointed out, “Leaving the roads, which are dug up for various purposes, uncleared for months is resulting in the generation of dust, which is eventually leading to an increase in particulate matter (PM 2.5). This is making the air-quality poor and the air pollution is posing a serious health risk to the public.”

Sound pollution is also increasing in Vijayawada, the association members added. They suggested that the officials concerned take action against the retail stores which are selling high-decibel horns and silencers.
