Though located on the outskirts of the city, students from Vasavi College of Engineering at Ibrahimbagh make the best use of the places they have in and around their campus.

“The staircase next to the college canteen is my favourite hangout spot,” says Vemuri Pratik, mechanical, fourth year. “It is also one of the most popular places to chill out. You’ll always find someone or the other there during college hours.”

Students have no qualms about the food served in the canteen. It’s hygienic and costs less than Rs 30. “It’s absolutely affordable for us. I particularly relish the south Indian thali. It costs just `22 and the large portions of rice, puris, rasam, sambar, curries, pickles and pappad given can serve an entire village!” adds Pratik.

Since the canteen is strictly a veggie zone, the non-veggies have their adda right opposite the college — a small Chinese food joint called Dabba. Chicken noodles, fried rice and more are available and each plate costs not more than `30. One can find hoards of students during lunch break at this joint.

Vivek Chaitanya, another mechanical student, loves to hang out with his friends in and around the campus. “My favourite places to chill out would be the table tennis room because I love sports. Outside college, I like going to Taramati Baradari because it has a lot of options, right from food to swimming pool...you just name it, it’s here!”

Taramati Baradari, which is about 250-300mts away from the college, is air conditioned — a blessing in summer. The prices are decent enough. Greenwoods is another restaurant that students head to when they feel like indulging in a bit of a tasty gourmet. “Though the place doesn’t have A/C, the food compensates for it,” adds Chaitanya.
