What did college teach you?
After having studied four different subjects, I feel they’ve instilled in me experiences of numerous kinds. Above all, I had a clear idea about my career well before joining college. Hence, my job was almost the same everywhere. An active involvement in student politics was there. I was looked upon by others as a serious man. It could be because of my political activities.
Your proudest moment in college.
I was the university topper for BSc chemistry. I scored good marks in the examinations. From the second year, teachers expected me to be a rank holder and it worked really well. I won five out of the nine elections that I contested. I was elected twice as University Union Counsellor, one from Sreekrishna College and the other from GEC. At Calicut University, I was elected as Senate member twice. In the college union election at Sreekrishna College, I became the college union representative. All these are good moments to cherish.
Any embarrassing moments you have had in college?
It is difficult to fish out such a moment from my memory now, for, I never triggered any tension in the colleges. At times, I had expressed my disapproval regarding some matters. That never landed me in trouble for I had the image of a studious student among teachers.
How did you score points with the opposite gender?
I had so many good friends among girls. As I got busy with my political activities, their help was required to prepare notes. I was a noticeable figure in all the three colleges and the university. Beyond the identity of a grave politician, they considered me a good friend.
Was bunking a part of your college routine?
Missing classes became indispensable due to my active involvement in politics. I remember getting minimum attendance everywhere. The attendance shortage was compensated with duty leave whenever required, for I never had to bunk intentionally. Sometimes I was accompanied by my classmates.
Did you have any rifts with professors? Why?
I never earned the wrath of professors. Once in Law College, a small issue did occur with regards to my internal markings but that did not worsen the situation. Another one that I remember was a political issue. During those times, my friends supported me tremendously. Still I do not have any regrets as I strongly believe that I argued for the right thing.
Where did you hang out in college with friends?
A small eatery near Calicut University was our major hangout. As it was next to our department, we frequented the place. Fondly called ‘Bhaskarettan’s Thattukada’, the place was our first destination. The owner, Bhaskarettan, never asked us for money. Still, all of us collected money for him when the business started making losses. Other than this, I have gone for movies with my friends. The campus film in Malayalam, Classmates resembled my college life.
What extracurricular activities were you involved in?
Cartooning and painting were my favourite vocations. My preferred subjects were political. I also made cartoons to find timely solutions to issues like filling vacancies to sealing leaky roofs. This was my trump card for election campaigns. Even students started noticing my cartoons. I simply drew toons on the black board than making speeches those days.
