Hello folks, it is that time of the year again, when people are fretting about what they ate and did between Christmas and New Year. In reality, people should be worried about what they eat between New Year and Christmas. As I mentioned in last week's column, I have been getting too many requests for detoxification and help with quitting smoking but the sad part of these requests is that most of the people are on a guilt trip. I have got many mails from edex readers on tips to detox at home and how to quit smoking. And all these mails have a tinge of guilt.

You need not worry. As I keep telling people, one week of partying in a year is not going to do too much damage if you regularly follow a healthy lifestyle. So forget the eating, drinking and partying that happened in the last two weeks and focus on the wonderful year ahead.

Here is a simple way to start 2012 on a healthy note. Remember this is not a full detox for your body and neither is it a way to lose all that fat, but it is a start. And I would like you to start this year with the wonderful habit of having a heavy breakfast. Make sure you include oatmeal or ragi, a bowl of fruits and a small portion of your favourite dosa or idly ( when I say small, I mean two pieces, not two dozen) in your breakfast. Skip lunch and have just a glass of juice. Have a light dinner with chappati or idly and avoid rice for a week. Take a glass of water first thing in the morning and drink two glasses of green tea every day.

Try this for a week and it should get your battered body back in order. Avoid alcohol completely and ideally you should not be smoking. Most importantly, take away any guilt that you might have regarding the festive week.

Remember that healthy living is a way of life, one that is not difficult at all. In fact, once you get the hang of it, you will wonder how you survived this long. Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2012.
