Safeer K uses the cyber world it to his advantage by creating e-pages during his free time. The 20-year-old, who is a final-year BSc geography student at University College in Thiruvananthapuram, has been designing websites for three years.
The self-taught web designer holds no formal grounding in this stream. “I learned the basics of HTML in school. Those lessons prompted me to explore the field. Initially I browsed online tutorials and started making simple web pages,” he says. Later, he broadened his knowledge by reading books on web designing. He also does logo designs, corporate ID packages, ad concepts, ad banners, print ads, and HTML development.
He earns between `1,000 and `10,000 a month. More than the amount, Safeer is happy to make financial contributions to his family — he gave his parents `10,000 to construct a home at Wayanad. “They are not struggling financially. I just wanted to contribute something,” he smiles.
Sanfeer either gets busy with his web-designing assignments or with studies after college hours. He has also made a personal website, www.sanfeer.in, where he keeps a record of his work. A literature enthusiast, he has created a webzine, outre.in, exclusively for literature by collaborating with students in various universities in India and abroad. Now he his gearing up to launch a website on geography ■
