Innovative Smart TV wins IGNITE Design Contest
Redefining a Smart TV was Fijoy Francis’s winning concept at the second edition of IGNITE Design Contest which is organised by Tata Elxsi. This student of Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF), was felicitated by Prof Uday Athavankar from IDC Mumbai at Connect D, an event organised to celebrate World Industrial Design Day at Tata Elxsi.
Francis proceeded to explain the idea behind his concept, “Whenever I walk into a mall and see Smart TVs, I always try to think of what features are missing. My Smart TV is designed for the Indian youth. Instead of spending money on pubs, bars, or parties, my new TV would be able to provide party-like atmosphere at home with a laser light, smoke, and a DJ mixer. There is a projector at the back of the TV, so you can watch a movie when there is a large audience. There is a plug and mobile slot for charging, a joystick for gaming, a storage facility of 10TB, a rotating TV stand and a camera so you can watch TV from anywhere in the room and none of the family moments would be missed by the camera. There will be a printer so you can print out your favourite screenshots and a battery back-up so you don’t miss out on your favorite programmes.”
This technology-savvy post-graduate first-year in product design engineering moved to Bangalore 10 months ago from Thrissur, Kerala, with a dream of working with the design team of BMW automobiles. The IGNITE contest was the first competition he ever took part in, and winning cash prize worth Rs 30, 000 and a chance to work with Tata Elxsi has made him hungry for industry experience. “I hope I can work with the transportation sector of the company. IGNITE has been a platform for me and I am encouraged to participate in more competitions.” The theme of this year’s IGNITE competition was ‘design enriching everyday life’, which was set up by International Council of Societies of Industrial Design.
