Agni College Takes the Lead in Encouraging Industry Academia Linkages with Industry Summit 2014

A unit of Agni College of Technology, Chennai,, Agni’s Centre for Research and Development, organised ‘Industry Summit 2014’ on April 19 at its premises. With an objective to improve industry-academia interactions in research, consultancy, internship and mutually beneficial research and development activities, representatives from various industries participated in the summit. SRR Senthil Kumar, Principal, Agni College of Technology, RN Jayaprakash, Managing Trustee, Sasi Kumar, Dean of the Centre for Research and Development, TS Natarajan, Professor, IIT Madras, K Gopalakrishnan, President, Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association, and K Sudhagar, Vice Principal of the college were present at the occasion to highlight the importance of industry-academia interactions and highlited R&D projects, schemes and facilities for the improvement of the same.

Transparency and merit at SASTRA

The admission policy of SASTRA University has the triple ingredient of merit, transparency and the right student mix. The merit of the students is ascertained by their performance in the JEE- Main (2014) and aggregate score in the Class XII exams. SASTRA is the only university that uses the JEE Main (2014) scores with a weightage of 25 per cent and provides 75 per cent weightage to the normalised Class XII aggregate scores for 70 per cent of its BTech seats. A win for Velammal engineering students at SAEINDIA Baja 2014

A team of mechanical and production engineering students from Velammal Engineering College, Chennai, were placed first among Anna University-affiliated colleges, fifth in the state and 18th among the 360 institutions that participated in SAEINDIA Baja 2014. A four-day national-level competition conducted by the SAEINDIA (Society of Automotive Engineers), it judges undergraduate students on designing and fabricating an All Terrain Vehicle. Under the guidance of Assistant Professors, S Chinnasamy and Elvin, team Krieger won the laurels at the event held at Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, from February 20-23.

Honours to OEC for outstanding engineering edu

Orissa Engineering College, Bhubaneswar, has been honoured with ‘Outstanding Engineering Institute (East)’ by Lokmat National Education Leadredship Awards for the year 2014. Established in 1986, OEC offers BTech, MTech and MBA programmes which are approved by All India Council for Technical Education and affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela. OEC has been awarded with Best Engineering Institute in students’ placement in 2012 and its founder Late Kamini Kant Patnaik has been awarded with ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for the year 2012 for promoting engineering education. Examinations go online at UPES

University of Petroleum and Energy studies (UPES), Dehradun, Asia’s only energy and core sector university is set to conduct its semester exams online with remote proctoring technology. University aspirants and existing distance-learning students can take entrance tests and semester exams from any location. Under this engagement, around 300 candidates have taken the UPESMET-2, an online MBA Entrance Test for admission to 10 MBA programs in the specialised sectors of Oil and Gas, Power, Energy, Infrastructure, Aviation, Port and Shipping, International Business and others. This has been enabled by Mettl, an online assessment and testing platform. Mettl’s proctoring technology ensures that any attempt to cheat is captured and addressed real time during the test – including the candidate moving away from the screen, opening multiple windows during the test, speaking on the mobile or getting a proxy to take the test. This will help reach students with potential in remote parts of the country.

122 students awarded PGDM degrees at ASBM’s seventh convocation

The seventh annual convocation of the 2012-2014 PGDM batch of Asian School of Business Management, Bhubaneswar, took place on April 5. The diplomas were awarded to 122 students of the graduating batch, and Infinity Gold Medals for the Best Academic Achiever and The Director’s Gold Medal for the All Rounder were handed out. Chief Guest Pradeep Singh Kharola, IAS, Managing Director, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation, Guest of Eminence Vijay Gupta, CEO of Power, Monnet Ispat and Energy, and the Chairman of the Board of Governors of ASBM Sunand Sharma, Country President (India and South Asia), ALSTOM, were among the dignitaries who honoured the occasion.

PITAM celebrates MoU with Harita Techserv and College Day

Prathyusha Institute of Technology and Management (PITAM), Tamil Nadu, signed an MoU recently with Harita Techserv, a design engineering solutions company, for their Product Design and Digital Manufacturing Lab. Chief guest R Shankarnarayanan, Chief Operating Officer, Harita Techserv, Chennai, during the course of his address, appealed to the students to promote team work in order achieves better results by integrating other engineering disciplines. He also gave away prizes, medals and trophies to the meritorious students in academics, sports and games. Members of the faculty were also honoured for their enviable contributions and achievements. Frontier Mediville addresses pesticide poisoning, first-aid

Frontier Mediville, a division of Frontier Lifeline hospital and Dr KM Cherian’s Heart Foundation, organised its first long-lending monthly seminar for the year 2014 on ‘Pesticides poisoning and First Aid Measures for Medical and Agricultural experts’. Dr D Kanungo, former WHO expert in pesticide poisoning and drugs and current official at Central Insecticides Board (CIB), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, was the key speaker at the seminar held on April 22.
