These girls wanna rock

Find out what makes The Void, an all-girl rock band from Bengaluru tick.
These girls wanna rock

Based in Bengaluru, The Void is an all-girl band that creates music while having a good time. It was only in August 2014, that they decided to start the band with Felsy Hubert Royer on vocals, Vinaya Grace Mary on the guitar, Rithika Perumal on the bass and Suvarna Magaji on the drums. They may seem like an off-beat, new band to many, but The Void seems to think they’re no different from other bands out there.

“Well, I’m sure we aren’t that different from other bands, being an all girl band I mean. We enjoy each other’s company on and off stage, and it’s great to share the stage and passion with the people you love. We’re just another bunch of girls who prefer to hang out on stage than go shopping,” says Rithika Perumal, The Void’s groovy bassist.

Musical chemistry came very naturally and the girls share the zeal and perseverance to make the music that they want the world to hear.

“Chemistry is something that just happened unknowingly for us. But that doesn’t mean making music happens instantaneously, we work quite hard at perfecting our music together,” she adds. The Void’s original songs have been written by Vinaya, who is influenced by the hillside rock genre. The girls then weave their parts into the songs, which resonate with different tones and genres.

“Our different influences in music, bring out a very unique sound in our originals. And that seems to connect with everyone in our audience on some level, no matter what genre they like,” Rithika says.

While every band has one ring leader, it seems like all the girls in this band share that position.

“We’re all badass ring leaders in our own little spheres; Vinaya in her quiet sphere, Suvarna in her notorious sphere, Felsy in her wild sphere and I (Rithika) just spin all their spheres and make them go crazy!” This summer, The Void plans to go with the flow, and hopes to keep on going,

“I think we have the best time when we play music that we’ve created and love. The energy is just insane and the audience feels it too. It’s incomparable,” she reasons.
