THIRUVANATHAPURAM: In the late night talks held here on Tuesday, the seat-sharing in the UDF for the ensuing Assembly polls has been finalised.
While Congress will contest 81 seats, the remaining 59 seats have been distributed among the other parties as follows: Indian Union Muslim League 24, Kerala Congress (Mani) 15, Socialist Janata (Democratic) 7, JSS 4, CMP 3, Kerala Congress (Jacob) 3, Kerala Congress (B) 2 and RSP (B) 1.
The Congress and KC(M) leadership would be meeting again on Friday to sort out certain differences over the choice of some constituencies.
The Kerala Congress(M) which had earlier been demanding 18 seats, later scaled it down to 16. However, as the Congress leadership took an adamant stand, the KC(M) had to settle with 15 seats.
Though SJ(D) led by Veerendrakumar had been demanding 12 seats, the Congress leadership offered only five. After hectic talks which lasted till late in the night, the SJ(D) had to be content with seven seats.
Earlier during the day, the JSS had agreed to contest from the Kaipamangalam consistency in Thrissur district. The JSS's earlier stand that they would not take the Kaipamangalam seat was sorted out through talks between the Congress and the JSS leadership.
