Kerala Polls: Kannur records highest polling in the state

Except for few small incidents, the heavy security arrangements in place avoided any major violence.

KANNUR: As expected, large number of voters turned up to various booths since the first hours of the polling across the Kannur district, on Monday.

The over night shower, cooled the atmosphere and the cloudy climate encouraged voters to turn up to cast their votes at the election booths. Long serpentine queue were seen since early morning and this increased with passing of time.

While for the first two hours saw 13 per cent votes, by afternoon 40 percent voters polled and by around 4.30 pm the polling crossed over 70 per cent.

Except for few small incidents, the heavy security arrangements in place avoided any major violence.

The police arrested a CPM activist, who tried to do bogus voting in Kathirur at Government high school in Thalassery constituency. The arrested man was identified as 21 year old Jislal, a resident of Kuttrichal near Kathirur. He was caught while trying to vote in the name of another voters.

In another incident, the police took into custody another man based on the complaint of presiding officer at Patyam  Sankara Vilasam UP school  at Muthiyangha near Panoor, who tried to caste  bogus vote with out proper identity card. Few bogus voting were also reported in Thilankeri near Irrity and attempt to do bogus votes were averted at Kaliassery, Peravoor and Thalassery.

The leaders of the various political parties and contestant reached early to caste their votes.

Speaking to reporters, CPM State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that people throw out the Congress led United Democratic Front (UDF) and bring LDF with thumping majority.

The leader who reached with his family at Kodiyeri Junior basic school in Thalassery, reiterated that that BJP led NDA will not be able to open the account in this election.

Union government and their effort to spread communalism and to supporting the corporate policy. He said people will also react to the insult of Prime minister Narendra Modi who compared the State to Somalia in this election.

He said youths and women have come in in all booths across the state and the large polling would be helpful to LDF.

On BDJS factor in the election, he said BDJS did not gain any advantage, except financial growth. The step to join the BJP was a suicide.

BDJS activist in later time may switch over to BJP. It will end up like another the political parties which would vanished with time.

Meanwhile, CPM Polit bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan caste his vote as first voter in the RC Amala BEMUP school at Olayambalam near Pinarayi along with family. 

Pinarayi VIjayan said people desire to change the present government and wish to set up a Nava keralam( New Kerala) under the LDF ministry.

The people will throw out the UDF government to reinstate interest to protect the secularism. So the people will isolate the communal forces also in this election. He also said no more Jisha of Perumbavoor tragedy would be repeated in future.
