‘Son of Siddipet’ KCR promises to pull Telangana farmers out of debt trap

He also said his government has fulfilled three major promises made to Siddipet people -- a separate district, a medical college and a railway line.

HUZURABAD/SIRCILLA/SIDDIPET/KAMAREDDY: addressing a public gathering as part of the TRS party’s elction campaigns on Tuesday, party supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao said the ‘dream project’ (Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project) of Telangana will be completed by June 2019. Stating that ‘it is my dream to make Telangana a fertile land’, he said: “Once Kaleshwaram project is completed water would be available at Mid Manair Reservoir and Lower Manair Dam throughout the year for irrigation and drinking water purpose.”

Highlighting the achievements of his government, he said: “Being the youngest State, Telangana had to overcome many hurdles. Despite all that, the State stood at number one position in various sectors compared to other States in the country. The State witnessed an impressive financial growth rate of 17.17 per cent in the last financial year and now it is cruising at 17.83 per cent.”  While speaking about the Mission Bhagiratha and Rythu Bandhu schemes, he promised that water would be released from Sri Rama Sagar Project to Huzurabad Assembly constituency in the next farming season.

Meanwhile, the TRS chief also predicted overwhelming victories for his son KT Rama Rao, Etela Rajender and Ch Ramesh Babu in Sircilla, Huzurabad and Vemulawada constituencies respectively.
“A survey conducted recently has shown that 80 percent positive support for all three of them. I am expecting them to win with more than one lakh votes majority,” he said.  

To pull farmers out of debts

While addressing another meeting in Siddipet, the TRS chief said: “As a son of the Siddipet soil, I will try to pull the farmers out of their debt traps of `4 to 5 lakhs. We will ensure that the farmers have `5 to 10 lakh balance in their bank accounts in the coming days.”Reiterating the plans to set up ‘one or two food processing units in every constituency’, he said: “The government will also ensure that the produce purchased from farmers by women groups will be processed and be sold in Indian and international market.”

Referring to the success of women’s cooperative Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad, he said, “A woman named Dharani from Mumbai set up a group with other women, prepared Lijjat papad and sold them in the market. Today their annual turnover is `1,176 crore. The women groups should work taking inspiration from them.”

He also said his government has fulfilled three major promises made to Siddipet people -- a separate district, a medical college and a railway line. “Siddipet will get irrigation water by next year and rail will also be available within next two years,” he said while appealing to the people to elect T Harish Rao from Siddipet and Ramalingaraju from Dubbak.

To resolve STs land issue

During his visit to Kamareddy where he addressed a meeting in Yellareddy town,  Rao said that within six months after elections, his government will resolve issues related to Scheduled Tribes’ demands for land.
Referring to a request made by a local candidate of TRS party E Ravinder Reddy regarding the issue,  he said his government will try to solve all these issues and provide scheduled tribes rights on the lands they are cultivating.

“TRS also has plans to provide 10tmcft water to Yellareddy to boost irrigation facilities. The proposed schemes will provide water to 3,000 additional acres,” he said while revealing plans to develop Adloor Yellareddy Tank near Kamareddy and another tank in Yellareddy town into tourist spots.

Funds from sand

Rao criticised previous governments for their failure to properly utilise huge quantities of sand deposits in the State. The TRS government has generated `2,057 crore revenue in this sector as against `9.56 crore during Congress government. Till now 50 percent sand deposits were utilised and another 50 percent to be utilised to generate additional revenue. All this generated will be utilised for implementing various welfare schemes. There is no chance for corruption,” he said. Meanwhile, the dress that the TRS chief wore atthe meeting has become a topic of discussion among the TRS leaders, cadre and general public.  Rao generally wears white shirt and pants. During public meetings, he prefers a semi silk shirt, similar to the one he wore when he launched TRS. According to sources, this is the same shirt Rao wore during ‘rajya syamala sahitha chandi homam’ he performed before embarking on his election campaign.
