HYDERABAD: Maganti Gopinath, the Jubilee Hills MLA in previous Assembly, who is seeking people’s mandate from the same constituency for the second time, is confident of his win by a majority of 30,000 votes at least. Speaking to Express, he said that he has been able to fulfil most promises he made in the last election and being visible, approachable at public’s doorsteps would work in his favour.

What do you have to say about your achievements?
Peace City colony, which did not have a water connection for the past 18 years, got their water pipeline soon after I had won. 310 families living in huts on the Karmika Nagar road in Rahmath Nagar division were settled in 1 BKH pucca houses in Beeramguda, just six months ago. We have got 600 capacity general wards sanctioned at the TB hospital at the cost of Rs 200 crore. I did away with the precedence of erecting a tent and handing over the cheques for Kalyana Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak schemes. Over the last three and half years, we have visited the houses of beneficiaries and handed over the cheques to them, personally.

For the past 2.5 years, entire constituency development programme funds have been utilised to combat sewage problem, laying of the new pipeline. Rs 6.5 crore has been sanctioned by KT Rama Rao for new drinking water pipelines.

What are your views about the opponents?
BJP is non-existent and not even in the fray, I would say. Congress candidate P Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, after the election, was not to be seen by the public until the last two months. He hasn’t visited any area or addressed any public grievance. This has given further given us an advantage.

What do you think about the caste politics?
Jubilee has a sizeable population of minority, 1.10 lakh Muslims and 30,000 Christian voters. MIM is an ally so these sections will support TRS. Settler vote bank comprises Brahmins and Kapus who have also openly sworn to support.
