What works in the BJP strongman’s favour is his image as an honest person with no corruption charges.

HYDERABAD: From the signs of it, Amberpet is likely to continue as BJP stronghold. For the fourth time in a row, over 2.2 lakh electors in the segment are likely to reelect G Kishan Reddy and seem to be in no mood to experiment with the fresh face projected by TRS. What works in the BJP strongman’s favour is his image as honest person with no corruption charges.

Mirza Khaleel, an AC mechanic based out of DD Nagar, puts it beautifully: “We do not like the party he represents, but we like the person.” Khaleel’s friends point out the same. “He is a peace-loving person.... never encourages communal tension unlike other BJP leaders. So, there is no sense of insecurity here.”

Compared to last week, TRS candidate Kaleru Venkatesh has not made much progress in closing the gap with Kishan Reddy. Another issue that is likely to be a setback for the pink party in the BJP stronghold is the unfulfilled promise of constructing a 2BHK homes.

Pointing at a cell tower located on top of her neighbour’s house, A Uma, a resident of Nallakunta fumes, “we are exposed to the radiation every day.”

She adds, “Despite several complaints, the issue has not been resolved. The TRS won in the State but where is the house for us. Couldn’t they construct a house in four years time,” Uma questions, while declaring her support to Kishan Reddy.

Key issues

  • Construction of a retaining wall along Musi river
  • Lack of enough toilets in Nallakunta, Barkatpura and Golnaka
  • Removal of television and mobile towers in Nalakunta
  • Replacement of underground drainage pipelines
