Indian cinema, in all its majesty, is all set to unfold before the young viewers of the state. The epic movies of master filmmakers of the country will soon be aired through ViCTERS educational channel.

The IT@School, which is the state’s nodal agency for imparting ICT enabled education, has teamed up with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) to telecast select classic Indian movies in ViCTERS channel.

``The idea is to provide an opportunity to the student community to view and understand epic films which are of high educational and social value, thereby making them able think out of the box at par with their school curriculum,’’ Anvar Sadath, Executive Director of IT@School said.

To commence with, NFDC will be issuing 50 classic movies for telecast. Of course, with Malayalam subtitles. Agantuk by Satyajit Ray, The Making of Mahatma by Shyam Benegal, Adi Sankaracharya by GV Iyer, Char Adhay by Kumar Sahni, Train to Pakistan by Pamela Rooks...the list definitely looks juicy.

Movies immortalised by the doyens of offbeat cinema in India such as Nazeerudin Shah, Smitha Patil, Shabana Azmi, Pankaj Kapur, Deepthi Naval and the like are among those issued by NFDC for telecast. Though the initial package has limited itself to Hindi movies, very soon movies from across the country in various languages will also be aired.

For IT@School, which has been putting forward the idea of integrated approach to modern curriculum, it’s a move to get bonded with the young minds through a modern medium. It’s not just about learning from the black board, let children learn beyond their books, seems to be the whole idea.

``These films are handpicked based on their social and educational value that it could deliver to the students. Each one of these film is aimed at providing an in-depth knowledge about a certain personality or an aspect which would influence the students’ thought process. It also gives the students a rare opportunity to watch and also to critically analyse the works of some of the famous directors,’’ Anvar said.

Char Adhyay, Ek Din Achanak, Ghare Baire, Miss Beatty’s Children, Tahader Katha, Ganashatru, Yugant, Mirch Masala, Amodini, Bub, Current, Dattak, Debshishu, Dharavi, Ek Doctor ki Maut, Five by Four, Haste Hassate, Hari Bhari, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Kairee, Mahayatra, Mammo, Marhi da Deeva, Massey Sahib, Naseem, Nazar, Party, Pestonjee, Pratimurti and Rudali are some of the other movies which will be aired in ViCTERS channel under the package.

IT@School had recently tied up with Deutsche Welle (DW), Germany’s international broadcaster, renowned for their world class educational contents. DW currently provides 200 hours of international educational video contents which are telecast in ViCTERS on a daily basis.
