AWARD winning filmmaker T V Chandran’s latest offering, ‘Bhoomi Malayalam’, his 13th film in 30 years, will be released on May 1.

Like most of Chandran’s popular films, ‘Bhoomi Malayalam’ is also a female-oriented film, notwithstanding the domineering presence of a star of Suresh Gopi’s standing. Priyanka Nair, Padmapriya, Samvrutha Sunil and Lakshmi Sharma are the four heroines in the film.

Samvrutha Sunil plays the role of a factory worker, Priyanka is an aspiring athlete, Padmapriya is a bold TV journalist and Lakshmi Sharma is a housewife. ‘Bhoomi Malayalam’ will focus on the social development of Kerala from independence till date through the prism of the female leads. It is for the nth time that Chandran trains his camera on the woes of womenfolk. Some of his best works, be it ‘Alicinte Anveshanam’, ‘Mangamma’, ‘Susanna’ and ‘Padam Onnu: Oru Vilapam’, revolve around their trials and tribulations.

The film has already made waves by winning the John Abraham Award for the best feature film at the fourth edition of SIGNS, a festival of feature and non-feature films.

Chandran’s film had in fact shared the award with Marathi director Paresh Mokashi’s ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’. The film, written by Chandran himself, has Suresh Gopi playing a double role. This is the first time that Suresh Gopi is acting in a T V Chandran film.

The other actors include Arun, Nedumudi Venu, Sreeraman, Indrans, Anoop Chandran, Govind Padmasoorya, Ershad, C k Babu, Kalabhavan Navas, Prakash, Nandu, V R Manikantan, Vijayan Karathur, Sreedhar Chambad, Charulata, Roselin, Kripa, Jasna George, Nanda and Baby Chandana.

The camera is by K G Jayan and music by Isaac Thomas Kottukapally.

‘Bhoomi Malayalam’ is produced by Revathy Chandran and V P Abeesh under the banner of Genuine Cinema. The film is distributed by Cochin Talkies.
