Now, laugh for 24 hours

Here's another channel to make you laugh through the day. Social Media and Kalaignar TV jointly launched the 24-hour comedy channel 'Siripoli', with much fanfare on Saturday at a grand event. This is a second Tamil channel, dedicated exclusively to comedy after 'Aditya' from Sun Network.

Celebrations were upbeat on Saturday as it marked a red-letter day for the Kalaignar TV camp on two accounts: It was Siripoli TV launch and the first anniversary of Isaiaruvi, Kalaignar TV’s Tamil music channel.

Sirippoli and its logo was officially launched by actor Kamal Haasan and has been on air from Sunday.

The celebrations were marked by an evening full of music. Singers Krish and Kalpana entertained the audience with evergreen melodies of the Universal Hero, from Ethetho (Punnagai Mannan) to Yaar Yaar Sivam (Anbe Sivam).

On a request from the emcee Vijay Aadhiraj and singers Krish and Kalpana, Kamal Haasan sang Panneer Pushpangal Paadum Paatu, much to the delight of the audience present.

"When I saw the invitation, there was a dress code mentioned. It would have been a comedy in itself if I came in hat and so on as prescribed, and so I have opted for this suit. But wearing a suit in summer in itself is a big comedy," Kamal said, as the auditorium burst into applause. He also made a request for the Tamil film fraternity to be referred to as the Tamil cinema industry, and not as Kollywood, as it is often said.

"Humour has always captured the attention of the audience and the channel is full of entertainment. The objective is to bring smiles across the people," said Sujit Kumar, director of Social Media India Limited.

Amritham, CFO of Kalaignar TV, said the launch of 'Siripoli' would provide much needed relief for people to unwind and discover the power of laughter. Comedians MS Baskar, Mano Bala, Charlie, actors Yugendran and Napolean among others, were present at the grand event.
