In her latest film 'Naan Mahaan Alla' , bubbly lass Kajal Aggarwal pairs up with Karthi . In a tête-à-tête with Expresso, she opens up about her fascination for romantic comedies.

Her eyes speak volumes of the spirited person she is. With her child-like face and a smile that never fades, Kajal Aggarwal, K-Town’s charming girl-next-door is back with her next flick 'Naan Mahaan Alla' with Karthi.

“I’m playing a middle class girl, Priya. She meets her man Jeeva through a common friend and falls for him,” explains Kajal about her character. The reason why she chose this film is its “realism”, says the actress. “I kept getting offers from Kollywood but I couldn’t take them as I was very busy in Tollywood. But I simply loved this script and decided not to miss it,” gushes the actress and adds, “Anyone can identify herself/himself with the film

because it is a slice of everyone’s life.”

The Big Debut

A theatre artiste in her college days, Kajal still remembers her debut film — Bharathiraja’s Bommalattam. “You can experiment with different roles only in the beginning of your career and I was lucky to get such a mind-blowing character,” smiles Kajal.

After 'Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu', director Susindran had chosen this realistic script. Says Kajal, “I watched 'Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu' and I don’t have words to appreciate the director. He is too focused and gets what he wants from the artistes. His pre-production work is very strong and his editing sense is superb. I learnt to underplay in this film as it is a realistic one.”

Karthi and Suriya

All praises about costar Karthi, Kajal says, “He is a thorough professional and extremely talented. His USP is his versatility and he can fit in to any character well.”

If you get offers to work with Karthi and Suriya and you have to make a choice, who would it be?

“(Laughs) I think both of them are superb and I’d like to work with both. I’m really looking forward to working with Suriya, now that I have worked with Karthi. They (Suriya and Karthi) have been brought

up so well and they are gentlemen. They are humble and down-to-earth,” she says and continues, “I met Suriya on the sets of 'Naan Mahaan Alla'. He is reserved but Karthi is an extrovert.”

Other projects

Kajal now has four projects in Telugu including one with Junior NTR. “I’ve done 13 movies in Telugu and only three in Tamil. I’m still learning Tamil but I can speak Telugu very well as I’m staying in Hyderabad. I want to balance both the languages well,” says Kajal.

To choose or not to choose

“I’m open to all scripts and I can’t be too choosy now as it’s too early to be so,” she says. When not shooting, the actress is hooked to romantic comedy movies. “I’m a sentimental person and I cry easily watching emotional scenes,” she admits.

Entry into films

For Kajal, acting was an accident. “I never thought I would become an actress, though I was a theatre artiste. I wanted to do an MBA but fate had other plans. Now, I love my profession,”

she smiles.

Rumours

“I used to feel very bad initially, now I don’t care. I don’t get affected and my parents know me well. I don’t have any problem unless there’s a misunderstanding between me and the co-star I’m linked with,” she says.

Strengths

My ability to learn fast and my grasping power. We have to do four to five films simultaneously and we have to fit in to the characters and there is no time to sit and think on the sets. My ability to switch on and off is something I would call one of my strengths.

The bikini question

The audiences are very open-minded now and I don’t think there’s anything wrong in wearing a bikini. But I do know that it won’t suit me and I would never wear one in the future.

'I admire Jyothika'

I like the way Jyothika balanced both her professional and personal life so well. At the peak of her career she quit and settled down. She is now happy with two kids. I admire her a lot.

Dream role

I want to do an action-packed film — something like of 'Charlies’ Angels'. I would also love to do comedy movies.
