You saw him work his cinematic skill in the action-filled 'Saamy' with Vikram playing the lead. This time around, director Hari is all set to prove his finesse in cop-based subjects once again with the much awaited Suriya -starrer, 'Singam' .

The trailers are already on air and expectations have hit a feverish pitch, as after 'Kaakha Kaakha' , the audience will see Suriya playing the cop once again.

“Initially I was nervous as to how I was going to handle the script as Suriya had already done a cop film and so have I. But the subject line of Singam was different and has come out very well,” Hari says and adds, “After doing 'Aaru' and 'Velu' together, the thought arose as to what could be done next and I felt a police-based subject would be a good idea. That’s how 'Singam' happened.”

Speaking about the film, the director says, “Suriya joins the police department to fulfil his father’s wish. It’s like an arranged marriage and he eventually falls in love with the job.”

It was director Hari who convinced Suriya to do a commercial movie like 'Aaru'. He says, “'Aaru' was a complete masala movie and the character and dialogue delivery required high energy. Since then Suriya has come a long way. He knows the mood of the character he performs — be it in 'Vaaranam Aayiram' or in commercial flicks like 'Vel' and 'Singam'. His performances are filled with energy and I was amazed by the way he delivered certain dialogues in Singam. He knows how to take the character to the audience.”

Anushka pairs up with Suriya in the film. The director says, “She has performed brilliantly and put in efforts to speak the Tamil dialogues during the shoot. She is low on the glam factor in the film because I wanted it that way. Comedian Vivek plays the role of a police officer who thinks he is the only intellectual around and faces the repercussions for believing so. His comedy track and body language would be hilarious and will be loved, especially by children,” smiles Hari.

The director has gained acclaim for his commercial flicks. But what are his views on parallel cinema? “There are a number of offbeat films coming out and becoming highly successful too. I don’t know how to make such offbeat

films. Of course, that doesn’t mean I’m an expert in commercial films. It’s just that I can see myself doing only commercial films.”

What’s next on the cards?

“I will soon start shooting a film with Dhanush in which Tamannah plays the female lead. It will be a family entertainer, a film on the lines of 'Thamiraparani',” informs the director as he signs off.
