CHENNAI: Actor R Madhavan feels very fortunate, of late. It’s hardly surprising when you consider his last four films — '3 Idiots', 'Yaavarum Nalam', 'Manmadhan Ambu' and his latest 'Tanu Weds Manu' — has made him the talk of both Bollywood and Kollywood. His joy is evident when he says, “I’m happy that the last couple of years have been successful. I prefer to concentrate on one thing at a time. I like to do one Hindi film and one Tamil film in a year; it’s a kind of discipline I like maintaining,” he says.
The actor was in the city recently to launch the Rado showroom. Maddy is currently busy with Linguswamy’s 'Vettai'. “We shot our first schedule in Karaikudi. It’s a familiar location as I’ve already been there shooting for 'Rendu'. We’ll be commencing our second schedule in Puducherry,” he says.
The actor has teamed up with Linguswamy for the second time after Run (2002). “Shooting for 'Vettai' has been real fun so far. We party hard after every shoot and I have a ball of a time with Arya, Sameera and Amala Paul, my co-stars,” the actor laughs. Maddy is extremely tight-lipped about the film, though.
Known for romantic roles since his debut in 'Alaipayuthey', Maddy considers it a boon when he’s offered films like 'Aayutha Ezhuthu' and 'Evano Oruvan'. But he’s no fool — he knows his market value and also what his audience expect of him. “TV and theatres are two different genres. A film like 'Evano Oruvan' would make a good watch in home videos, but not in theatres. I’ve reached a phase in my career where I have the luxury to decide on the projects I like to work on. I’m neither a producer nor director, but I prefer to do things I love,” he elucidates.
After a brief holiday, Maddy is all geared-up for the second schedule of 'Vettai' after a brief holiday. “I just returned after a skiing trip in Germany, recently, with my family. It was a much needed rejuvenation because it’s been quite a while since I took such a break,” he says.
A gizmo freak himself, the actor is updated on the latest technologies. “Recently I heard about 4G, which I believe is a breakthrough in telecommunications and cellular wireless standards. I’m always keen about such things,” he says. Not just that, Madhavan is also associated with social causes. “I’m associated with the Banyan, Shiksha, and PETA.”
