The animated cat-and-mouse team of Tom and Jerry is back, with brand new adventures that still pack a punch. The familiar chasing, scheming and pranks bring to life the spirit and pizzazz of the original show, each episode airing three shorts of this much loved tale.
Tom and Jerry Tales is an animated television series which began production in 2005, and premiered in the United States on September 23, 2006. The tale is centered on a never-ending rivalry between a cat (Tom) and a mouse (Jerry) whose chases and battles often involved comic violence. It is the fourth television show in the Tom and Jerry franchise that continues the chase and violence of the cat and mouse duo and other characters since the first T&J short, Puss Gets the Boot. A video game based on the show has also been released for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. The player plays as Jerry to get Tom in trouble. Many minor characters from the show make cameo appearances in the game.
Tom and Jerry Tales has a worldwide audience that consists of children, teenagers and adults, and has also been recognised as one of the most famous series in American cinema. Created originally by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in 1940, the cat-and-mouse team of Tom and Jerry had had a long theatrical-film run before its first reincarnation as a TV-cartoon property in 1975.
This and subsequent TV versions tended to dampen the gloriously violent and slapsticky tone of the original Tom and Jerry cartoons, usually bowing to whatever was considered to be politically correct at the time.
CW’s half-hour Tom and Jerry Tales, produced not by the team’s longtime home of MGM but instead by Warner Bros Animation, restored the old knock about pizzazz of the vintage T&J short subjects, right down to the familiar “Smash! Zing! Eeek!” sound effects. Watch Jerry and Tom indulge in brand new adventures on February 17 at 3pm on Cartoon Network.
