Amrita Rao is back in business with ‘Love You Mr Kalakar’ after being off the Tinsel Town circuit for over a year. Bhawna Gera Vijan finds out what she has been up to.
One-year sabbatical
The recession in 2009 affected the best of us in the film industry including myself. Two of my films — the AB Corp film directed by Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi and the Tips film directed by Ken Ghosh — signed and to be executed in 2010 had to be stopped and I ended up shooting only for ‘Love You Mr Kalakaar’ under the Rajshri banner last year. In 2009, I had two big releases — ‘Victory’ produced by Manmohan Shetty and ‘Shortcut’, which was an Anil Kapoor Films production. Only in 2010 I didn’t have a release, and it’s amusing if anyone perceives it as a ‘comeback’.
Spunky Intern
Ritu Diwan in ‘Love You Mr Kalakaar’ is an MBA intern, who is trying to find her own space in her father’s business set-up. She is vivacious, funny and headstrong. Like most Mumbai girls, she has a modern outlook towards life yet her core Indian values are intact.
Tusshar Kapoor’s MF Hussain comparisons
Tusshar plays Sahil who is a cartoonist in the film. I have interacted closely with Hussain Sahab. I don’t think apart from being an artist there is any similarity to Sahil’s characterisation and MF Hussain.
Talking Tollywood
I have done one Telugu film. It’s definitely more hard work in comparison to a Hindi film because of the language difficulty. My sister, Preetika Rao, who recently made her debut in Tollywood, is naturally good at picking up new languages. She is extremely hardworking. I guess she will do a Hindi film whenever she feels like.
Girl-next-door
Simple and innocent are rare compliments these days. However, I think simple and innocent girls can be smart, witty, vivacious, and of course, very attractive. I believe I embody such qualities and would love to portray such facets to my on-screen roles.
Strictly private
My relationship status is only for myself and my family to know. I don’t like to make a daily soap of my personal life.
