After the feel-good film ‘ Manikyakallu' , Samvrutha Sunil is set to steal hearts again in the multi-starrer ‘3 Kings’ . The actor shares with City Express her journey in tinseltown — the ups and downs, et al.

First step

I was doing my first year graduation in St Teresa’s College when ‘Rasikan’ happened. I heard that Lal Jose was on the lookout for a new face and decided to try my luck. After a photo shoot with Dileep, I was selected. At that time, I was not aware of the seriousness of the field I was stepping into.

And then...

My next noted film was ‘Nottam.’ It was my fourth film. Despite the movie not being a hit, it garnered good response at many film festivals. The moment I heard the song ‘Pachapanamthathe’ in which I was featured, I knew it was going to be a hit.

Acting with Mohanlal

‘Chandrolsavam’ was my second film. And I shared the screen space with none other than Mohanlal! Acting with him was a dream-come-true. He was very helpful and taught me how to deliver the dialogues. There were moments when I forgot my lines by watching Mohanlal’s stupendous performance!

The turning point

‘Achanurangatha Veedu’ was my second movie with Lal Jose. My character in the film had scope for good performance. It was a turning point in my career.

The best happened in 2007

2007 was quite a good year for me. ‘Arabikatha’ and ‘Chocolate’ were big hits. People remember my characters in both the movies. I was depressed during those times as many of my films were not doing well. ‘Chocolate’ and ‘Arabikatha’ lifted my sunken spirit.

Being part of ‘Pulijanmam’

I had a good role in the film directed by Priyanandan. I had done a guest role in his ‘Sufi Paranja Katha.’ It felt good being a part of a national award winning movie.

A bold step with ‘Cocktail’

The character Parvathy I did in ‘Cocktail’ was another performance-oriented role I did recently. The director was a newcomer and my tension was at its peak. But after watching the preview, I was so happy and knew it was one of my best roles. Chandni in ‘Manikyakallu’ is one of my favourite roles. Portraying her was a different experience altogether.

Were you considered for ‘Nandanam’ first?

The offer came during my Class X board exams. So I thought it was not the right time to enter the film industry.

Debut in other languages

My debut in Tamil was with actor Srikanth in the film ‘Uyir.’ In Telugu, my first film was ‘Evadaithe Nakenti.’ Soon I got many offers from both the industries but I didn’t find any script which excited me as much.

Chemistry with Prithviraj

Prithvi and I are good friends. So the comfort level we share is high. I have got good response for the movies which I have done with him. There has been many a gossip centered on us. Now that he is married, all these stories will die.

My mentor

It is because of Lal Jose that I entered the industry. I have done four films with him. He is caring and supportive. If I have any problem, I call him up and he guides me as to how to come out of the crisis. Every actress he has introduced will always see him as their mentor.

Passion for dance

I used to be a regular at youth festivals in school and college. Even now, whenever time permits, I do stage performances. I love dancing.

Upcoming films

Besides ‘3 Kings,’ I have signed two films which are yet to be titled.
