Clad in his proverbial black suit with sunglasses on, Jackie Shroff aka Jaggu Dada looked all stylish and suave as he sat down for a conversation on his maiden Odia venture Daha Balunga.

What prompted you to accept Daha Balunga ?

I have been doing a lot of regional films like Marathi, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and many more. In fact, almost in all languages other than Odia and Nepali ! So, when the offer came, I took it up. Besides, I personally know Sudhakar Vasanth, the director of the film. I know he makes good cinema so that was also one of the main reasons for accepting the role.

Isn’t language a barrier when you do regional cinema?

No not at all. See the language may be different. The industries may work in different fashion. But the emotions are still the same.

How was the first day shooting experience?

Oh it was wonderful. I shot with one of the very senior artistes of Odia film industry, Bijay Mohanty. A respectable man and a very clean and fluid actor. It was great sharing the sets with him. Maine toh unke paon bhi chuen!

You shot into limelight with Hero and now your son is all set for his debut with Heropanti. How are you feeling?

It’s the same feeling when a parent sends his child to kindergarten for the first time. You want him to be fine, to adjust to the new surroundings but you also want him to fly, to grow. I am looking forward to Tiger’s debut and want to wish the best for him.

Would father and son work together?

Well, why not? If a director is ready to cast us, we would!

How does Jaggu Dada manage to stay so fit?

Well, we have to. Our profession demands that. Besides, we have role models like Dev Anand sahib who walked tall and straight even at 89! Besides, our work keeps us busy and active. We are always on the move so that is another reason we stay fit.

Tell us about your upcoming film Aurgangzeb and other projects?

Well, this is my second Yash Raj film after Aaina and it will be releasing in May. And, my character is that of Yashvardhan, a very strong role. It is a great film to look forward to. This apart, I will be seen in Dirty Politics that would release in October and Dhoom 3, which will probably release during the year-end. So, you will see a lot of Jackie this year!

Your message to the people of Odisha?

Well, it isn’t just to the people of Odisha. My message is for everyone. Respect your parents, Love your friends. Spread love. Be humble. Don’t judge people and learn to give. God bless all.
