Good lyrics will find place anyway, says actor-singer Harish Raghavendra, who is all set to make his lyricist debut with Kalyana Samayal Saadham, directed by RS Prasanna. Starring actor Prasanna and Lekha Washington, the movie is produced by director Arun Vaidyanathan of Achamundu Achamundu fame and Ananth Govindan. Arrora has scored the music for the film.
“Without Facebook, this wouldn’t have been possible. Arun happened to see my posts and found my Tamil writings impressive. When he offered me a chance, I grabbed it without a second thought,” says Harish.
Harish insists on listening to the story before writing the lyrics. He has penned two songs in the film – Modern Kalyanam and Kaadhal Marandhayada.
The former is brewed with English words and also has a rap portion, while the latter is a melody female solo. “I wrote 14 charanams for Kaadhal Marandhayada and let the team choose what they wanted,” says Harish, who feels that a lyricist’s job is more challenging than that of a singer.
“I am not a full-time lyricist and my first love is singing,” says Harish, whose inspirations for penning lyrics are Vairamuthu, Vaali and his Tamil teachers. “I read a lot and so the articulation of thoughts is easy. I don’t have to struggle to write as I have always had a flair for language. You just have to understand the mood of the song and come up with suitable expressions,” says Harish, who is simultaneously working on his second untitled film .
As a singer, Harish has finished recording for Idhu Kadhirvelan Kaadhal (starring Udhayanidhi Stalin and Nayanthara) under Harris Jayaraj’s direction.
His other forthcoming films include Om Shanti Om in Vijay Ebenezer’s music (starring Srikanth and Lakshmi Menon) and director Vikraman’s Ninaithathu Yaro that has Paul Raj handling the music. Currently, Harish is writing an album for a US-based producer and has plans of singing in it too.
“I would love to write. But I don’t insist that I had to sing for it. Nowadays the trend is open. You can experiment whatever you want. Initially I acted in a few films and then switched over to singing. Now I am into writing and tomorrow I may do something new,” he signs off.
