Lakshmi in a spooky avatar
She was a VJ on SS Music who turned actor with Nil Gavani Selladhey. Now the leggy Lakshmi Devy is all set to play a spooky, modern day ghost in Sax Pictures’ Shivani next. What’s more, she is part of the Malayalam and Telugu film industries as well. With so much on her plate, Lakshmi has gone in for a complete real life makeover and will be seen in a new avatar in her next few films, having lost over eight kilos of bodyweight. Ask her about it and she confesses, “I’m now serious about cinema. That’s what has prompted me to give it my best.”
Throwing more light on the horror-thriller, she says, “It’s not a normal ghost in white saris, but a ghost with a twist in the tale. In fact, I’ve done many stunts in the film, including a scene where I am suspended upside down. I love adventure so I decided to avoid a dupe!”
It looks like Lakshmi is full of surprises. The actor is a medical doctor, who was a general physician before she joined showbiz. Her mom is a doctor and dad, an engineer. Together, they run a hospital back home in Thiruvananthapuram. Lakshmi, however, was born and brought up in New York, before she made India her home after high school. “I started off with theatre and modeling after which I got my break in films with Nil Gavani Selladhey. In Shivani, I play a modern-day ghost,” she says with a laugh.
After her Mollywood debut with Cinema Company in 2012, the actor is starting shoot on an untitled Malayalam film directed by Anand Thomas next, while her Telugu film 143 Hyderabad just released two weeks ago. In her new svelte avatar, she’s looking at lead roles now and offers are pouring in from Tollywood. Here’s one doctor who is bent upon giving herself a new lease of life!
