Rachel hair stylist

From working at the Taj’s Salon in Kolkata to being on speed dial for most of India’s fashionably famous, Rachel B Singh has come a long way.

If you didn’t know: A regular at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, she has worked with Priyanka Chopra, Sushmita Sen, Diya Mirza and almost every big Indian model today. She has also worked with Asin for Pokkiri and the Mirinda commercial, Meera Jasmine for the Pothys ads and Tamanna for Tata Sky.

Unforgettable: “The day I started my own salon, Taanuk.”

Inspiration: “I like working on my own terms. I don’t really believe in improvising on or replicating someone else’s ideas.”

Brand alert: “I strongly recommend the Schwarzkopf shampoos and straightening creams. I love the hair spa from L’Oreal and the heat protection spray from Toni & Guy.

Sourcing: “Be it wigs, hair extensions or accessories, I do most of my shopping in Bangkok.”

Precious find: “A straightening product from Keune that is not available anymore.

I am still looking for it.”

Basics: “A good hair dryer, a hair iron and good hair tongs.”

On a bad hair day: “The moisture kick leave-on conditioner from Schwarzkopf is a lifesaver. If you have wavy hair, apply mousse and scrunch it up.”

Deepali Noor wardrobe stylist

A model-turned-stylist, Deepali Noor’s stint with wardrobe styling started when she had to fill in for a popular stylist at a Maanav Menon shoot. There has been no looking back since.

If you didn’t know: She styled Suriya’s look for Jillunu Oru Kaadhal, Shriya’s for the Spinz commercial that made the petite actress famous. She also designed Asin’s sultry look in the Tanishq commercial.

Unforgettable : “I think every shoot or show comes with its own share of surprises.”

Inspiration: “Every person makes his or her own style statement, which is why I draw my inspiration from the person whose wardrobe I am styling. I completely believe in personalising the look.”

Brand alert: “I am not a brand person. I think flaunting an Armani or a Versace is attention-seeking and not in the least bit stylish.”

Sourcing: “I deliberately stay away from shopping at places like Lifestyle, because you will find a dozen other people wearing the same stuff. I prefer shopping from smaller places where I can mix and match.”

Thinking out of the box: “When I was working on the Style One shoot, I was looking for a certain kind of a shirt but couldn’t find it. Finally, I used five broad belts and a little bit of fabric and made it look like a shirt!”

Basics: “A pair of well-fitting denims, a stole that can be used as a scarf/headband/ belt, a nice black dress.”

On a ‘feeling bloated’ day: “Wear a tunic or a shift dress.”
