Costuming is an art; only few can claim mastery of.
But the elegant Erum Ali has made a statement with her ‘looks’ on Karthi, Reema, Andrea and Parthiban for the film Aayirathil Oruvan. This Selvaraghavan magnum opus is already creating a buzz, thanks to the uber-chic styling and innovative costumes by the Punjabi seamstress.
A period fantasy film that took more than two-and-a-half years in the making features the designers designs on all its cast.
“First I worked on the costumes of lead heroines and then I was asked to take care of the costumes of entire film. We did a lot of research and it was hard to convince Reema at first, but after a lot of sessions, arguments and discussions with Reema, the girl wore the clothes beautifully,” shares the fashion designer.
Speaking of the deadlines and output she says, “It took a month to design and produce a single costume of Reema, which will be used in a lot of scenes. We worked at odd timings and at odd places but it all paid off with some sensational designs and perfect fits,” adds the designer, who personally feels the costumes of the Chola King are bound to have the audience awe-struck.” Erum who worked hard on distinguishing the first half from the second, wishes that the “Movie recognises the design aesthetic and effort that has gone into it all,” and feels, “Selva has been a great support and I like the way he gave me a direction to pursue and from then on it was my creativity.” Erum Ali who has a bridal studio that shapes the confidence of city brides and makes their special day all t h e m o re memorable promises to “Take up challenging work and deliver breath-taking results and asks for good wishes and blessings from all.”

She’s very clear about what she likes. Despite the arguments it worked and finally showed her dedication to the film. Selva told me that Reema should be seen like never before. She should look hot, sexy and powerful.
On Karthi
He‘s like a perfect model and you can make him wear any costume. I was very comfortable working with Karthi and the same goes for Andrea. Karthi is very relaxed and has an easy sense of dressing.
