Hathaway, first showed off her song-and-dance skills at last month’s Academy Awards, where she performed with host Hugh Jackman. She was also nominated for an Oscar for her lead role in last year’s Rachel Getting Married. Harvey Weinstein, the founder of American film studio Weinstein Co, announced that Anne would play the lead role of the 2000 book, Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland. He said, “We are thrilled to have the brilliantly talented Anne Hathaway portray stage and screen legend Judy Garland. I have worked with Anne on projects in the past and have known her for many years. She will be a true class act in this challenging role.“Gerald Clarke’s biography is a fascinating and comprehensive look at Garland’s life and is particularly outstanding because of its exclusive details from her own writings. Her story is incredible subject matter for both theatre and film and we look forward to bringing it to audiences.” Garland is perhaps best known for starring in 1939’s The Wizard of Oz and singing its Oscar-winning ballad Over the Rainbow. Other career highlights included an Oscar-nominated turn in the 1954 musical remake of ‘A Star is Born’.
