Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen passed away today at the age of 82. Regarded as a legendary poet and lyricist, his songs moved people in a way that very few musicians have been able to. 

He was even touted as a visionary by many people and several famous musicians have been infoluenced by his easy yet profound style of lyric-writing. 

As a tribute to the great musician, here's a list of the top five songs by Leonard Cohen: 

1. Hallelujah

Leonard Cohen apparently went through 80 drafts for he lyrics of this one song, and the fact that it is still regarded as one his best, speaks for his effort. 

2. Suzanne

This song talks about how Cohen would love to touch a woman named Suzanne's body "with his mind". Reportedly, there was a real Suzanne who had a boyfriend, and that explains the lyrics. 

3. Famous Blue Raincoat

A thief had once stolen Cohen's raincoat in the 70s. However, the thief apparently had no idea it belonged to such a famous person. It was this incident that propelled him to write this song. 

4. Everybody knows

This song is touted to be the most pessimistic song in all of Cohen's collection. However, these soulful and poignant lyrics can make anybody relate to them. 

5. Bird on a wire

The singer was rumoured to be going through depression when he came up with this number. He compared himself to the bird mentioned in the lyrics and that resonated really well with the audience. 

When Bob Dylan was poised to get the Nobel Prize for literature, many argued thst Cohen should receive it instead.
