Emmy Awards 2017: Watch out for these star-studded TV series nominated for the first time

Netflix is booming, binging is trending and the Emmy nominations are out. The Emmy awards is a month away and now would be a good time to catch up on these new series that have been nominated for the first time.

1) A Handmaid's Tale

Why you should watch it: This gripping drama is an adaptation of Margaret Atwood's novel of the same name. The story revolves around Offred and other women (known as handmaids) like her who are trapped in a totalitarian society called Gilead. The handmaids are told that they are a "blessing" to the world where infertility prevails. The women are trained and earmarked to bear their commanders' children.

2) This Is Us

Why you should watch it: When entertainment turns out to be warm and comfortable, why would you turn away? Kate, Kevin and Randall are siblings who are born on the same day. While Kate and Kevin are Jack and Rebecca's twins, Randall joins the family through adoption. This drama that tugs at your heartstrings has been compared to the popular 2010 TV series Parenthood.

3) Big Little Lies

Why you should watch it: Dark comedy is a trending, and this mini-series is full of it. Starring popular actors from Hollywood including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley, the show is about three mothers of six-year-olds and a murder. How did a murder occur in the seemingly perfect lives of these three women? Find out.

Why you should watch it: A movie is surely not enough to describe a member of the royal family. That's why Peter Morgan decided to expand his 2006 movie "The Queen" into a biographical drama TV series. The series follows the story of Queen Elizabeth II starting with her marriage to the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip.

5) Westworld

Why you should watch it: If you are a fan of Anthony Hopkins from Silance of the Lambs and if you loved Jonathan Nolan's Person of Interest, this science fiction thriller is for you. Based on Michael Crichton's film, the new TV series is about a mishap in a futuristic theme park.

6) The Young Pope

Why you should watch it: This drama one dwells on the life of a newly elected American pope, Lenny Belardo. Played by Jude Law, the pope struggles with his new responsibilities. Sister Mary, an older American nun, is his appointed secretary and plays a role in shaping the new religious leader.

7) Atlanta

Why you should watch it: It's fresh, it's funny, it's rap. This semi autobiographical series introduces you to your next favourite rapper "Paper Boi" (also known as Earn), who leaves home and quits school to pursue a career in music. The show has already won two Golden Globe Awards this year.
