CHENNAI: With Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2, Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 and the much awaited Wonder Woman kick-starting the blockbuster summer of 2017 in earnest, here’s a sneak peak into the other exciting films in store.

From horrific mummies to ravaging apes and kickass superheroes, it seems everybody has something to look forward to during the next couple of months.

The Mummy (June 9)

The Mummy franchise gets a promising reboot in the form of The Mummy that stars none other than Tom Cruise. The film is also the first installment in the Dark Universe series by the producers, Universal Studios. The film boasts of a stellar cast that includes Russell Crowe, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson.

Transformers: The Last Knight (June 23)

This is the fifth installment of the live-action Transformers film series and a direct sequel to 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction. The film is directed by Michael Bay again, with Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci reprising their roles from Age of Extinction alongside Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro from the first three movies.

Despicable Me 3 (June 30)

This third installment in the Despicable Me film seriesis directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, and co-directed by Eric Guillon. The protagonist, Gru (Steve Carrell), will reportedly face off against a more charming twin brother, Dru, in this film that also features the voices of Steve Carell in a dual role, Kristen Wiig, Trey Parker, and Miranda Cosgrove.

Spiderman: Homecoming (July 7)

We’ve now got ourselves a new Spider-Man in Tom Holland, who made his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War last year. The trailer looks good, and it’s never too late to resuscitate a dying franchise. If that were not exciting enough, it has been confirmed that the film will also feature Iron Man/Tony Stark played by Robert Downey Jr.

War for the Planet Of The Apes (July 14)

The apes are back in the War for the Planet of the Apes that’s directed by Matt Reeves (who also made 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes). The third installment in the Planet of the Apes reboot series stars  Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson and Steve Zahn. The film will have Caesar’s team in war with the humans, led by a ruthless colonel (Woody Harrelson).
