Dandupalya is yet another Kannada film that is based on on real life incidents. The movie is directed by Srinivasa Raju, who handled the megaphone for films such as Nannavanu and Kote. He has also provided the script and the screenplay for this film based on the story of a notorious gang from Dandupalya village.
It was said that many friends and well-wishers of Srinivasaraju had advised him not to go ahead with his plans since the gang members were known for notoriety and were also responsible for the death of innocent people in Bangalore. “I received threat calls from some people for directing this film. They tried to stop me but I decided to go ahead with my plans,” said Srinivasaraju.
The alleged semi-nude scenes of Pooja Gandhi has already created a lot of buzz in Gandhinagar, the hub of Kannada film industry. However, Srinivasaraju said that he had followed the script and have not included any scenes just for publicity. “Pooja plays the role of Lakshmi, one of the gang members, who was tortured by the policemen to reveal information on the crimes committed by the gang members. I had the privilege of interviewing Lakshmi for three hours,” claimed Srinivasaraju.
Recalling his efforts to stop Srinivasaraju from making this film, artiste and studio owner Kari Subbu said that he was shocked when he was informed about the plan to make the film Dandupalya. “I told Srinivasaraju not to make this film since it would invite trouble. He asked me play the role of an advocate but I opted for the role of a gang member. I even improvised my dialogues to ensure the diction of Dandupalya,” said Kari Subbu.
Girish and Prashanth are the producers for this film and the dialogues are written by V Anandapriya. Raghu Mukherjee, Pooja Gandhi, Ravikale, Ravishankar, Doddanna, Srinivasamurthy, Karisubbu, Harish Roy, Nisha Kothari, Sudharani, Bhavya, Ramesh Bhat, Bullet Prakash, Petrol Prasanna, Yathiraj, Kashi, Tabala Nani, Vijayasarathy and Muni comprise the cast.
Prasanna alias Petrol Prasanna said that he was in a dilemma to accept the character role in this film. “If the film Dandupalya becomes a huge hit, the chances are that I’ll be branded as one of the Dandupalya gang members. If the film fails, then there are chances of the producers losing a lot of money. I am still in confusion,” explained Prasanna.
Muni, who played the role of a gang member, said that he was least bothered about the threats from Dandupalya gang members.
