She was last seen in Katradhu Kalavu and now the tall and talented Vijayalakshmi returns with Adharsh Studio’s Vennila Veedu. Playing a young mom in the film, based on a true story, Vijayalakshmi is thrilled with the response the trailer has been getting. In a chat with CE, she talks about the role and the gaps between her films.
“I play Thenmozhi, a village girl who gets married and comes to the city. She’s exposed to the apartment culture and her life slowly changes. How things go awry once the craze for gold enters her life, forms the story,” reveals Vijayalakshmi. Mirchi Senthil plays her husband, while Srindha from Mollywood, plays a close friend who is the guiding factor in her life.
Apparently, director Vetri Mahalingam of Arumbu Meesai, Kurumbu Paarvai fame, has kept the current gold craze as the pivot of the movie, after observing the growing lure of the yellow metal among folks around him. Despite being a youngster, Vijayalakshmi chose to go against convention and play a mom in the film and has even gone de-glam for the most part. Speaking about it she says, “I didn’t mind playing a young mom because its part of an amazing script. And I want to do roles with substance so I went ahead.” But she didn’t envisage the difficulties that would arise, having to handle a child on the sets. She admits, “Playing a mom turned out to be the biggest challenge for me. For one thing, the little kid just didn’t take to me, all through the shoot. I tried everything from coaxing to playing with the child. But it would go to everyone happily except me. So for most of my scenes I had to try hard that the child wouldn’t end up crying. Moreover, we had to shoot keeping the child’s sleep patterns in mind. If we woke him up for a shot, he would naturally be hassled and tough to handle.”
Vijayalakshmi also fractured an ankle and had to return to shoot after a 20-day rest and do some running scenes which proved painful. Her next is Rendavathu Padam, where she plays a bold girl. So why the long gaps between films? “I want audiences to expect good movies and sound acting from me. Hence the wait for interesting roles,” she concludes.
