After becoming Miss India, working in Punjabi and Telugu films and also making her Bollywood debut in Ekta Kapoor’s Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi (2014), Simran Kaur Mundi plays one of Kapil Sharma’s three wives in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon. The film also stars Manjari Phadnis and Sai Lokur as Kapil’s other two wives besides Elli Avram as his girlfriend.
Simran candidly clarifies that she was a bit apprehensive about entering a film with so many other female stars. “I had reservations about doing a multi-starrer because of the cat fights. I have grown up as a tomboy and I get along more with guys than girls. I had very few girls as friends. So I was wondering how I’ll manage on the sets,” she says.
Fortunately for Simran, her fears were unfounded. “I found all the girls sweet and helpful. I think this comes from the sense of security that our characters are different from each other that no one is going to overshadow anybody. In fact, after this film is over, I can now say that I have a few more girlfriends,” she adds.
Simran says she didn’t even have to audition for the role, and that somebody had recommended her name to Abbas-Mustan. “On September 25, 2014, I met them for the first time. Within half an hour of our first meeting, they started talking about the budgets, the role and the contract. There was no look test or audition! This was the fastest role that I have got till date. That’s what happens when you have experienced directors — they just look at the person and place them in the character. Also they wanted someone from the Punjabi film industry as one of the actresses,” she says.
The next hurdle for Simran was matching wits with Kapil Sharma who is known for his coming timing. “Initially I was nervous,” Simran confesses. “I was worried that scene will fall flat because of me. But when we first met, he started talking in Punjabi and we connected instantly. We got friendly and all my stress disappeared. I have learnt from him that it’s not about the lines, it’s about the way you say them that makes it funny.”
