AFTER playing a tough cop in the critically acclaimed A Wednesday, actor Jimmy Shergill is set to don the role of a meek husband in his forthcoming film Johnny Mastana. It is Jimmy’s second film with director Shoojit Sircar, who had earlier directed him in Yahaan, a film based on the love story of an Indian army man and a Kashmiri girl.
“For the first time in my career I am playing the character of a henpecked husband,” says Jimmy. The film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sarika and Dia Mirza was earlier titled Shoebite. Riding high after the success of A Wednesday, the actor hopes to continue doing good work with his forthcoming releases like Anjum Rizvi’s supernatural thriller Flat, Johnny Mastana and Mumbai Cutting, a film which includes eleven different short films by national award winning directors. The film talks about their interpretations of Mumbai as a city. “I play the character of a narrator in one of the stories, which has been directed by Rahul Dholakia. It is about an up market South Mumbai dude and his idea about the social life of the city,” says the actor.
Jimmy recently bagged the coveted V Shantaram Award for best supporting actor’ for his portrayal of a tough cop in A Wednesday, the first award in his thirteen- year-career.
