‘I would love to do a Telugu film’

‘I would love to do a Telugu film’

She has always been associated with big films. Right from her debut film Rock On!! opposite director-actor Farkhan Akhtar, to Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai with Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi. And, now, Prachi Desai will soon be seen in I, Me Aur Main with John Abraham and Chitrangada Singh. “I am glad that finally I will be able to play my age in this film,” begins the 24-year-old actress, who was in the city on Monday for the Oral B Smile India Movement.

More from the actress:

From TV to films

Prachi started her career at the age of 17 with a daily soap (Kasamh Se) and by the time she was 19 she was already doing her first film. “When I was offered Rock On!!, I was a part of the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. That’s where the director spotted me. They were looking for an actress who could balance the film by bringing in a mass appeal. And the masses knew me because of Kasamh Se,” recalls Prachi, who then did films like Life Partner, Bol Bachchan, among others. So, does she ever plan to go back to television? “In India, an actor doesn’t have the liberty to do both films and television shows at the same time. Actors in the West are more blessed that way.”

However, she hopes that she gets a reality show offer which she would love to take up. “I wouldn’t mind doing a reality show where I can be myself — the audience gets to see me,” she adds.

I, Me Aur Main

The 24-year-old actress is elated at the idea of playing a character which is her age and also relatable to youngsters today. “In I, Me Aur Main, I play the role of a hair-stylist and make-up artist who talks a lot. She is always talking and giving knowledge to John (Abraham), who plays the role of a self-centered guy in the film,” explains Prachi.

After watching the film, she believes that men will surely be able to relate to John’s character and realise how self-centered they can be sometimes. “Men will surely realise how selfish they can be sometimes, and women will also find characters who they can relate to,” adds Prachi, stressing on the fact that the film is very relatable.

Shedding the girl-next-door image

Prachi has always been seen in a simple and girt-next-door look. But, for I, Me Aur Main, the actress has shed that image and looks glamorous. “It has always been about opportunities. In this film, I got the opportunity to play my age and dress in a specific way, which did not happen with other films. I am very happy to have received this chance and explore it,” shares the actress.

Tollywood calling?

The actress says that she loves Hyderabad and also loves watching Telugu films (with subtitles) even though she doesn’t understand the language. So, any plans of working down South? “Well, I would love to, if I get an opportunity. I have been busy with Hindi films, but now that I have a base in Bollywood, I wouldn’t mind exploring the options of a Telugu film,” says Prachi, whose favorite south actors are Suriya, Vikram and Mahesh Babu.

I, Me Aur Main releases on March 1.
