Showing off a svelte figure in an off white sari paired with a fluorescent pink sleeveless blouse and a bare minimum jewellery of a diamond earring, the Bollywood diva Bipasha Basu conquered the hearts of the Malayalis with just a blink of her expressive eyes and luscious smile. The Bong beauty was here in the city to attend a private function and expressed her excitement to be in the God’s Own Country. “As soon as I landed in Kerala I felt very happy as the climate here is so cool unlike Mumbai’s hot and dusty weather. It is pleasant to watch the scenic beauty of the land,” says Bipasha, who debuted in Bollywood with Ajnabee in 2001.
Though Bips, as she is fondly called has acted in Bengali, Telugu and Tamil films, apart from Hindi, she expresses her wish to be part of Malayalam film industry too. “The language is tough but I like the type of films made in Kerala. And little bit of me is related to Kerala too. My brother-in-law is a Malayali, so I know a wee bit of Kerala and its culture. And regarding acting in a Malayalam movie I would be glad to be part of the industry if some offer comes up,” says Bipasha who is also an ardent lover of Kerala food. “Among the Kerala cuisine I love to eat appams,” she says. Bipasha admits that she is no smarty when it comes to speaking Malayalam and says, “The only word that I know in Malayalam is ‘mathi’ and that too I use often while somebody is serving food.”
The 34-year-old model-turned-actress who was seen as the hot bombshell for her bold and sensuous roles in Jism, Raaz and Race got equally lauded for her roles in Apharan, Corporate and Bachana Ae Haseeno.
Asked about her being more choosy about selecting films, she says, “My next film will be an action adventure named Creature,” says Bipasha who was last seen in the horror flick Aatma. Creature which falls in the sci-fi genre is a the latest venture by director-producer Vikram Bhatt. It will be the country’s first ever creature film which will be made on the lines of Hollywood films like Predator and Jurassic Park.
Unlike the other B-Town heroines who are in a rage for ‘zero figure’, Bips is one of those actresses who stands for a hot and fit body. Ask her the mantra for staying fit, she says, “I am a foodie and love to eat a lot, especially fruits. I eat as good as a man. And to keep a perfectly toned body I work out daily for an hour.”
